Salix Homes stands up to domestic violence

Salix Homes is backing a national campaign to tackle domestic violence.

We havesigned up to the Make A Stand campaign pledge, which calls for more support for people experiencing domestic abuse.

The campaign was launchedby the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) in partnership with the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA) and Women’s Aid to encourage housing providers to do more to help victims in their communities.

The initiative encourages housing organisations to pledge to deliver four commitments to provide support to people experiencing domestic abuse.

The four pledges are:

• To put in place and embed a policy to support residents who are experiencing domestic abuse
• To make information about national and local domestic abuse support services available on your website and in other places which are easily accessible to residents and staff
• To put in place a HR policy and procedure on domestic abuse, or to incorporate this into an existing policy, to support members of staff who are experiencing domestic abuse
• Appoint a champion in your organisation to own the activity you are doing to support people experiencing domestic abuse

Lee Sugden, chief executive at Salix Homes, said: “Salix Homes is proud to stand up to domestic violence and join our fellow housing providers to support this campaign.

“Sadly, domestic abuse affects millions of people every year, both men and women, many of whom will be living in our homes and communities, so we are well placed to recognise the signs of domestic violence and provide support to those who may need it.

“It’s a very sobering thought when you realise that two people are killed every week at the hands of their partners or ex-partners, so we would urge others to pledge their support to this potentially life-saving campaign.”
