Salix Homes springs into action for Salford clean-up

Salix Homes has pledged oursupport for this year’s Great British Spring Clean in a bid to clean-up Salford.

The annual campaign, run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, runs from March 22 to April 23 and will see up to half a million people taking action to clean up streets, parks and beaches across the country.

We are supporting two community clean-ups in our neighbourhoodsand areurging local residents and businesses to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand.

Liam Turner, environmental services manager at Salix Homes, said: “We’re passionate about building safe, clean and happy communities where our residents can be proud to live and work, which is why we’re proud to support the Great British Spring Clean once again.

“The people of Salford are famous for their pride in this great city, but we’d urge even more people to take a little bit of ownership of where they live and join our community clean-ups, because if everyone does their bit we can make a real and lasting benefit to our neighbourhoods.”

The first clean-up takes place in Ordsall on Friday, April 5 and is being run in partnership with Salford Council, Greater Manchester Police and New Barracks Tenant Management Organisation.

Salix Homes’ Environmental Team will also be hosting a second clean-up in the Littleton Road area of Kersal on Thursday,April 18.

Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton said: “The Great British Spring Clean is an opportunity for the millions of people who care about the environment on their doorstep to do something positive that will make a visible difference.

“We are delighted that Salix Homes is supporting this year’s campaign and would like to thank them for their support. Without organisations across the country giving the campaign their backing, our volunteers would not be able to do the incredible job they do.”

The Great British Spring Clean brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep and in 2018 around 370,000 #LitterHeroes collected more than 630,000 bags of rubbish.

This year’s campaign will not only see tonnes of litter being removed from the environment on our doorstep, it also aims to rescue thousands of the plastic bottles and aluminium drinks cans that are simply thrown on the ground but could, very easily, be recycled.

Anyone wanting to get involved should meet at Salford Lad’s Club, Ordsall, at 11.30am on April 5, or at Salford Sport’s Village, Littleton Road, at 1pm on April 18.
