Salix Homes launches appeal for Salford food bank after break-in

Salix Homes has been left shocked and saddened by the despicable theft from Salford Food Bank.

Heartless thieves broke into their storage unit at Mocha Parade in Lower Broughton, stealing £2,500 worth of sanitary products and nappies that had been donated for local women and children.

Lee Sugden, chief executive at Salix Homes said: “Salford Food Banksits in the heart of one of our biggest estates and provides a lifeline for many of our residents who are affected by poverty and struggling to make ends meet.

“That same food bank was devastated by the Boxing Day floods in 2015, and I remember how the community pulled together to get it back up and running, with that Salford spirit that they are known for.

“After battling back from adversity back then, it honestly beggars belief that people would stoop so low as to steal from a food bank that is providing such a vital resource for people in desperate need.

“Salix Homes has been proud to support the foodbank over the years and in their hour of desperate need we will support them once again.”

From today (Tuesday)we are launching a collection of nappies, sanitary products and non-perishable food items. We will also accept cash donations, which will be matched Salix Homes.

People can drop off their donations at the reception of our offices at Diamond House, 2 Peel Cross Road, off Eccles New Road, Salford, M5 4DT, by 3pm this Friday, August 24.

Lee added: “The food bank is a wonderful charity providing a great source of support for many of our residents, so I would urge people to do anything they can to help the cause.

“I’d alsoencourageanyone with informationthat may help the police to catch these callous thieves toreport it by calling police on 101.

“I know that the Salford spirit that our communities are known for will not be broken, and together we will help them overcome this despicable crime.”
