Salix Homes announced as ‘Member’ of the GM Good Employment Charter

Salix Homes has been announced as a ‘Member’ of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter, in recognition of our commitment to raising employment standards.

We are one of 12 new organisations to be announced as Members of the Charter by Mayor of GM Andy Burnham today (Thursday, September 14), after successfully progressing from ‘Supporter’ to ‘Member’ status. Organisations with Member status has now reached over 100 across Greater Manchester.

Mr Burnham said: “The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter reaching the 100 Member milestone is a significant moment for the good work movement.

“This accomplishment demonstrates the progress we’ve made towards ensuring everyone can access work that is secure and fairly paid, within a workplace where they are respected. I want to encourage more employers to get in touch with the Charter team to find out about the positive impacts membership can bring for their business and their employees.”

The GM Good Employment Charter sets out seven characteristics of good employment, which Members must meet, these are:

• Secure work
• Flexible work
• Pay
• Engagement and Voice
• Recruitment
• People Management
• Health and Wellbeing

One of the characteristics is around paying employees the Real Living Wage, and Salix Homes became the first accredited Living Wage Employer in Greater Manchester, back in 2012.

“This milestone underscores the growing recognition of the pivotal role good employment practices play in our region. We remain steadfast in our commitment to shape a job market in Greater Manchester that is more inclusive and fair for everyone.”

The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter is a voluntary membership and assessment scheme that aims to raise employment standards across GM, for all organisations of any size or sector, and contribute to a thriving and productive economy.

To achieve Member status, organisations must complete a thorough assessment to ensure each characteristic of the Charter is addressed in their policies and procedures.
