Salix Homes and Connolly team up for footpath improvements
At Salix Homes, we are committed to working closely with our partners to enhance homes, strengthen communities, and improve the lives of our customers.
During a recent property improvement project in Broughton with our partner contractor Connolly, they were approached by a customer, Maureen, who faced challenges accessing her home due to a narrow and uneven footpath. This also affected other residents, including young families with prams who found it difficult to use the path.
Connolly Customer Value and Social Value Manager Linda Beaumont said: “Getting out and about in the local area is a great way for people to feel more connected to the people and places around them. When we met Maureen and heard about the access problems, we really wanted to see what we could do to help.”
After hearing about Maureen’s issue, Connolly’s Contract Manager, Darren Hardy worked with Kerry Parr, Housing Manager at Salix Homes, to explore solutions. Together, they agreed on widening and levelling the path outside Maureen’s property to make it easier for her to leave her home and use her mobility aids with greater confidence.
The work was completed in just five days, transforming the path not only for Maureen, but also for other local residents.
We checked in with Maureen to hear her thoughts on the improvements. She said: “This is the icing on the cake. I can’t walk unaided, so I’m really pleased with the work that’s been done. Now, it’s so much easier for me to get out and about, and I can visit my sister and friends more often. I’m even doing more exercise – I’m doing a few laps then have a sit down, I’m absolutely thrilled.”
Kerry Parr, Housing Manager at Salix Homes added: “I’m so pleased with the work Connolly has done for Maureen, and it’s wonderful to see her enjoying more independence. This improvement to the path has made a real difference, not just for her but for others in the community too. It’s a great example of how, through our partnership working, we’re not only investing in improving homes, but also delivering additional social value by making a positive impact on the lives of our customers and the wider community.”
