Salford charity helps unite communities with boost from Salix Homes
Salford Refugee Forum has received much-needed funding of £1,000 thanks to the Salix Homes Springboard Community Fund.
The funding helped the Salford Refugee Forum charity to host a special Black History Month event held at the Beacon Centre in Salford.
The forum is made up of representatives from multiple Salford based community groups that aim to provide help and support to refugees and people seeking asylum in the Salford area. The forum offers services and support to help refugees integrate into the community, and access employment training, translation support and advice.
The recent event, ‘Celebrating Black History’ organised by the charity, aimed to celebrate diversity and culture in the city of Salford and support community cohesion by bringing together people from all different backgrounds to join in the festivities.
The event included dazzling traditional dance performances from all over the world for people to celebrate their different cultures and backgrounds. The Springboard Community Fund helped to provide food, drink, refreshments and supplies for attendees to enjoy while watching the performances and forging new connections with each other.
Alexis Shama, treasurer of Salford Refugee Forum said: “Salix Homes has been supporting the forum for a while and their partnership has allowed us to continue to deliver events and opportunities like this for refugees and asylum seekers in Salford.
“Salford is changing, and the area is becoming increasingly diverse. Our Celebrating Black History event encouraged attendees to network and build relationships with others in the community, helping people to forge new socials links all while celebrating the diversity within Salford.”
Sian Grant, Executive Director of Customers and Communities at Salix Homes, added: “The Springboard Community Fund is our way of providing a much-needed funding boost for organisations and projects that benefit the people of Salford.
“We are proud to support organisations like the Salford Refugee Forum as the work they do is vital in making Salford an open and welcoming place to live and work for all, including refugees and asylum seekers.”
