New year, new work club providing path to fitness and jobs
Salford housing providers and a community gym have kick-started the New Year by joining forces to provide a new weekly work club in the city.
Those on the hunt for work can pop along to the Well IN Gym, in Broughton each Wednesday and receive career advice and support – as well as a free week’s gym pass each time they visit the club.
Housing associations Salix Homes, Great Places Housing Group, Affinity Sutton and Contour Homes part fund the gym and are also working with the Community Futures Trust CIC in creating this job and skills club to help local residents into employment while boosting their health and wellbeing.
The club is informal and meet from 10am to 12noon where experts will be on hand to support jobseekers with:
- CV and application form writing and support
- IT support
- Access to MyWorkSearch
- Interview-improving techniques
- Signposting
- Plus financial and housing support
- One-to-one support is also available from 12noon until 1pm.
Ann Hedley, work club co-ordinator, said: “We wanted to provide a local work club that was close to local residents in a friendly and informal environment.
“The Well IN Gym is an excellent community resource in the heart of Broughton – one that aims to bring the community together through fitness, health and wellbeing.
“Now it’s gone one step further, with the help of the social, housing and voluntary sector and is now a hub that can support you if you’re looking for work or need support with job searching skills, interviews or applications.
“So start 2017 by coming along to the work club and get the added bonus of using this community gym for free.”
You can simply drop by the Well IN Gym, The Vibe, 175 Broughton Lane, Salford, M7 1UD, on Wednesdays. No appointment necessary.
