Beware of loan sharks
A loan shark is an illegal money lender who often charges extremely high rates of interest.
They often use violence and make threats against family members to collect money. They rarely use paperwork or leave a paper trail. While they may seem friendly at first, borrowing from them is never a good idea.
Reporting a loan shark
If you’re approached by someone you think is a loan shark, you need to report them. Contact the police on 999 if you are in immediate danger.
Report a loan shark anonymously, or find out if a company is properly authorised to lend money at www.gov.uk/report-loan-shark
