Helping rough sleepers keep warm this winter
Salix Homes is supporting the launch of the ‘Keep Warm This Winter’ campaign in Salford this year.
We all know that nobody should have to spend a night on the streets, especially in winter weather.
Our Supported Housing Service is working in partnership with Salford City Council this winter to tackle rough sleeping through the cold months. This year, Salix Homes is now able to provide people with accommodation every night from November right through to Sunday, 5 March, 2017.
During this period, the service ensures that a place of warmth and safety is available for those people sleeping rough, providing food, laundry facilities, packs with waterproof clothes and essentials, plus advice and support.
Rachel Connelly, service manager for Supported Housing at Salix Homes, said: “Historically, accommodation only has to be provided to people when the weather hits severe levels, generally freezing temperatures.
“This year as part of the ‘Keep Warm This Winter’ campaign we are pleased to be able to offer extra beds for people who are sleeping rough from now until 5th March. We urge all the people of Salford to contact us when they see anyone sleeping rough so that we can get them off the streets.”
The Supported Housing Service in Salford is based at Salford Housing Options Point (SHOP) – a one-stop shop for all aspects of housing advice.
Located on Wesley Street, Swinton, trained officers can help you if you have nowhere to live – or if you’re on the verge of losing your home.
