Stay warm safely this winter
As the weather gets colder, you might be making some changes at home to stay warm and make your home cosy for winter. It’s important to stay safe while doing so.
We’ve put together some safety tips on:
• Smoke alarms
• Candles
• Portable heaters
• Electric blankets
• Christmas lights
• Keeping communal areas clear
You can find all the essential tips to help keep your home safe this winter by clicking the button below.
Christmas opening hours
Our reception at Diamond House will be closed on Wednesday, 25 December and re-open on Thursday, 2 January.
We will still be available for emergencies throughout the festive period but with limited customer service, so please report any issues through MySalix.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Claim Pension Credit by 21 December 2024
This year, to receive the Government’s Winter Fuel Payment of up to £300, you must also be receiving Pension Credit.
If you or someone you know are not currently on Pension Credit but think you might be eligible, it’s important to check eligibility now and apply by 21 December 2024, to avoid missing out.

Check out your 2024 Neighbourhood Action Plan
This is your reminder to check out your 2024 Neighbourhood Action Plan, launched earlier in September. These plans have been thoughtfully put together to improve the quality of life in our communities and make your neighbourhood an even better place to live.
Find your Neighbourhood Action Plan by clicking the button below and entering your postcode in the search bar.
Open the door
We’re urging our customers to ‘Open the Door’ so we can carry out regular safety checks or repairs, which includes essential gas and electrical inspections.
In the past year, we’ve spent more than £200,000 pursuing legal action to obtain a warrant to access people’s homes for safety checks.
Since April, we’ve also obtained 152 warrants through the courts.
This is money, time and resources that could be better spent on improving homes and communities.
Win a £30 Iceland voucher!
Do you have the best dressed Christmas House? If you’ve festively decorated your home, you could be in with a chance of winning a £30 Iceland voucher.
Send your pictures and contact details to northsalfordhousingteam@salixhomes.co.uk or share your pictures with us on Facebook by Thursday, 19 December to be in with the chance to win.

Save Salford City Radio!
At Salix Homes, we are proud to back the campaign to support Salford City Radio – a station run by incredible volunteers from all walks of life. This station is a vital lifeline for many, offering a sense of purpose, community, and support.
Through our show, ‘Let’s Talk Housing,’ we’ve seen first-hand the positive impact the station has on our community and the important platform it provides for voices that may not always be heard.
However, the station is currently facing financial challenges and urgently needs sponsorship and advertising support. We’re urging all local Salford organisations to come together and help in this critical time.
If Salford City Radio were to close, it would silence important voices and dismantle a vital network of support for many.

Salford Community Leisure install life-saving devices
Salford housing associations have contributed to a life-saving initiative at leisure centres across the city.
With the support of donations from Salix Homes and ForHousing, Salford Community Leisure (SCL) received vital funding to install and upgrade nine new life saving defibrillators (de-fibs) within their leisure centres.
These life-saving devices replace older equipment, which has already proven critical in several emergency situations. SCL’s effective use of defibrillators has helped save numerous lives within the community.
Asthma charity secures much-needed funding
Salix Homes is supporting young patients in Salford, following a donation to the Asthma Relief charity to fund essential medical equipment.
We’ve awarded £950 to Asthma Relief from our Springboard Community Fund, which has enabled them to provide five nebuliser compressors to hospitals and nurses across Salford.
