Community comes together for cleaner streets
Action day in Gloucester Street and Rudman Drive Alleyway
During this year’s Great British Spring Clean residents, Salford City Council, and Salix Homes teams joined forces for a clean-up day in Ordsall.
Gloucester Street and Rudman Drive alleyway is a fly-tipping hotspot, causing worry among residents and prompting the need for change.
We joined forces with our partners and residents to organise a day of action to coincide with the Great British Spring Clean, which is a national event run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy to encourage people to help clean-up where they live.
Thanks to everyone’s hard work, the action day focused on cleaning up the area while also improving security and raising awareness about recycling.
Highlights from the event include:
Clearing of bins: Contaminated bins were emptied and cleaned, funded by Salix Homes with help from Salford City Council.
Skips for residents: Two skips were provided for residents to get rid of waste from their gardens and alleyways.
Removal of large items: The environmental team helped clear bulky waste from the alleyway, making the area look neater.
Recycling support and enforcement: Salford City Council’s Waste and Recycling Officers addressed fly-tipping concerns and shared important recycling tips, encouraging residents to take action.
Security improvements: Plans are underway to change the locks on communal gates and provide new keys to residents to prevent unauthorised dumping of waste.
Garden inspections: All gardens were inspected, and necessary actions were taken on neglected properties to keep the community clean and welcoming.
Looking ahead
There are plans to install CCTV in the area, which will help prevent fly-tipping and improve safety.
Declan Rooney, the local Housing Officer said, “It’s fantastic to see everyone working together to make positive changes. Events like this encourage residents to take pride in their neighbourhood and help keep it clean and safe.
“This initiative shows what can happen when communities come together to create a cleaner and safer neighbourhood.”
