Ballot papers arrive
Ballot papers have begun arriving at 8,500 homes across Salford for tenants to have their say on their future.
Tenants are being urged to use their vote on Salford City Council’s proposals to transfer their homes to Salix Homes.
Tenants will be able to vote ‘yes’ to transfer to Salix Homes or ‘no’ to stay with the Council and will be able to cast their vote by post, phone, internet or even by text. The ballot is being run by independent experts, Electoral Reform Services.
Councillor Gena Merrett, assistant mayor for housing and environment, said all tenants have been written to explaining how they can use their vote to make sure their opinion counts.
This is a crucial decision – a once in a lifetime chance for tenants to decide, having taken all the facts into consideration, she said.
I urge people to use their vote.
Tenant Barbara Harper, chair of the Salix Homes Customer Senate, said: The ballot is the culmination of two years of hard work by tenants, Salix Homes and the council to ensure the transfer presents the best deal for the people of Salford.
As tenants, our future now lies in our hands. Every vote is vital and I’d urge all people not to waste this opportunity to use their vote.
Tenants have until noon on November 3 to vote.
