Local charity scores a big boost to help those in need this winter

Greater Manchester based charity, Two Brews, has received £1,000 from the Salix Homes Springboard Community Fund to help create winter warmer packs for elderly people across Salford.

Two Brews was set up four years ago by a group of friends who recognised the need for extra support for homeless people during the festive period.

The charity aims to support the homeless community by offering free hot food, drinks and essential items seven nights of the week, 365 days of the year, and the Two Brews Team have been out and about across the Christmas and new year period, helping those most in need.

In addition to supporting the homeless, this year, with help of our Springboard Community Fund, the charity has also been helping the elderly during the cold months of winter. The cash boost from Salix Homes has enabled the team to buy essential winter warmer items such as hot water bottles, flasks, fleece blankets, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, hats, scarves and gloves.

The packs were then delivered to 50 nominated elderly people within the Salford area to help keep them warm this winter. The charity was also able to give some people a little extra money to help with their bills and some were given a delicious hot roast chicken dinner.

Amanda Thompson, one of the team at Two Brews, said: “Without the support of local businesses like Salix Homes which provide the charity with valuable grants, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. If we can put a smile on even just one person’s face, then that’s another person we’ve made feel more worthy than they did yesterday.

“The winter warmer packs mean a lot to those we give them out to, as it still means they can keep warm while spending slightly less on other things including their bills by using the essential items in the packs.”

Sian Grant, Executive Director of Customers and Communities at Salix Homes, added: “The Springboard Community Fund is vital in supporting other organisations and projects that help boost the health and wellbeing of our communities in Salford.

“The work Two Brews have done with this project is truly inspiring and demonstrates the power of community spirit and collaboration. By providing these winter warmer packs and hot meals, they’ve made a real difference to those that received them. At Salix Homes, we’re proud to support initiatives like this, which are making a positive impact in our neighbourhoods.”
