New CEO appointed at Salix Homes

Liam Turner, the new CEO of Salix Homes

The Salix Homes Board has appointed Liam Turner as our new CEO, taking over the role from outgoing CEO Sue Sutton who is retiring next year, after a 25-year career in housing.

Liam has worked at Salix Homes for the past 12 years, and is the current Executive Director of Assets, Growth and Sustainability, with responsibility for property, building safety, development and sustainability.

Salix Homes owns 8,000 homes across Salford, and earlier this year we become one of the first housing associations in the country to achieve the top C1 (Consumer) grading from the Regulator of Social Housing.

Find out what our Chair of the Board Martin Warhurst had to say about Liam’s appointment.

Winter WIN Day brings festive cheer to Salford communities

A group of Salix Homes colleagues

Salix Homes customers and teams were in the festive spirit in December.

Teams from across our organisation were out in the community hosting various events across Salford for our Winter Working in Neighbourhood (WIN) Day, which gave our teams the opportunity to get to know you, our customers and neighbourhoods better.
The series of festive themed events took place across our high-rise blocks and sheltered schemes, as well as at community centres including Salford Lad’s Club and the Agnes Hopkins centre.

Our officers spent time chatting with some of you, answering any questions and building stronger connections over a mince pie and a brew. In our sheltered schemes, we were joined by the House of Memories charity – an organisation that aims to spread awareness and help those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. The resident’s enjoyed chatting with the members of their team and looking through their carefully curated ‘Suitcase of Memories’ that included ration booklets, photographs and food packets from their childhoods.

At Longbow Court, resident Steven also provided the entertainment with some fantastic singing.

Salix Homes spreads festive cheer with donations and support for local charities

Salix Homes staff with a cheque for Salford Food Bank

Our teams at Salix Homes were out and about spreading some festive cheer to people in need before Christmas.

We organised a series of collections and activities to support various charities and good causes over the festive period.

We donated £3,200 to Salford Foodbank – a £10 contribution on behalf of each of our 320 employees – after our teams were invited to vote for a charity to support in their name, with Salford Foodbank receiving the most votes.

Our teams also donated food items to Salford Foodbank, totalling 43.65kg, and St Thomas’s Family Food Fayre, which provides access to low-cost food parcels for people in need across Salford. In addition, Salix Homes officers arranged a collection for the Food Fayre at Co-op Academy Swinton.

Several members of staff also generously volunteered their time to help out at Salford Foodbank’s warehouse, which is based at MediaCityUK.
