Fly-tipping

We want to help keep your neighbourhood a safe, clean and great looking place to live.

Fly-tipping has a negative impact on our neighbourhoods and is dangerous, ugly and illegal.

Salix Homes has a responsibility to remove fly-tipping waste that is on our land.

If fly-tipping is reported to us on land managed by Salford Council, we will refer the issue to them as it’s their responsibility.

If you notice any fly-tipping in your area you can report this to us through MySalix or call us on 0800 218 2000.

Perpetrators caught fly-tipping will be charged for the cost of clearing and disposing of the rubbish, as well as being issued a tenancy warning.

More information

  • Find a registered waste carrier to take away your household waste and large items through the Environment Agency Public Register. Make sure they provide proof of registration, get a proper receipt or invoice, and take down their vehicle registration.
  • Think twice about accepting unexpected offers to have your rubbish taken away, either for free or if they ask for a fee.
  • Donate large items to charity. Some charities, like The British Heart Foundation, will come and collect your large items for free if they are in good condition.
  • Donate your unwanted furniture to our Salix Homes Furniture Recycling scheme.
  • Arrange a collection for your unwanted large or bulky waste through Salford Council, for a fee.
  • Abandoned shopping trollies are not collected by Salix Homes or Salford City Council. Abandoned trollies should be reported directly to TrolleyWise.
  • Can your unwanted items and waste be recycled? Find your local recycling centre through Recycle for Greater Manchester.
  • Do not touch the waste. Fly-tipping can contain dangerous materials like syringes, asbestos or broken glass.
  • Look at the waste to see if you can tell what it is and how much there is.
  • Take note of its exact location and whether it is near water. Hazardous materials can leak into local water sources.
  • Do not disturb the sight, there may be evidence in the waste that can help us with an investigation.
  • Report the fly-tipping to us through MySalix or contact us on 0800 218 2000.
