Salford football pitch in disrepair scores a much-needed cash boost
A popular community sports facility has undergone a remarkable transformation, breathing new life into its once run-down football pitch.
Albert’s of Salford, based at Albert Park in Lower Broughton, has now become a vibrant epicentre for local sports and recreation with help from Salix Homes’ Springboard community fund.
The sports facility, located in Albert Park, Lower Broughton, opened 20 years ago, but sadly found itself in need of renovation and was facing closure.
After securing a significant amount of funding from the Football Association (FA) and a £2,000 boost from our Springboard grant programme, Albert’s of Salford have been able to fully refurbish their new 3G, shock pad installed pitch, as well as add new perimeter fencing, goal posts and lights.
With 600 users weekly from all walks of life, the facility plays a vital role in improving the health and wellbeing of the Salford community, and the refurbished pitch has become a hub for young people, providing a safe and positive outlet.
Dave Morgan, Trustee and Treasurer of Albert’s of Salford said: “It’s more than just a sports facility – it’s a safe haven where people from diverse backgrounds and of all ages come together to enjoy recreational activities and foster positive relationships.
“With the help of Salix Homes, we’ve been able to create a safe and inclusive space that is vital for the community in Salford. Our priority is always to be community-led and allow our users to feel safe, motivated and included through sports.”
Sian Grant, Executive Director of Customers and Communities at Salix Homes, added: “The Springboard Community Fund is our way of providing a boost for organisations and projects that benefit the people of Salford’s health and wellbeing.
“We’re so pleased that we’ve been able to support Albert’s of Salford in creating a safe and inclusive space for the community to exercise, meet with friends and build stronger connections.”
Salix Homes’ Springboard grant provides funding to groups and initiatives across Salford that boost community spirit, improve the environment, reduce isolation and promote health and wellbeing.
The recent upgrades now see the sporting facilities booked solid every night and it’s used by charities, schools, and local clubs. By providing a positive outlet for young people and a communal space for all, Albert’s of Salford continues to be an indispensable part of the community, promoting unity, health, and wellbeing.
