Salix Homes colleagues help make Christmas special for local children
Once again, Salix Homes colleagues have been spreading Christmas cheer by supporting Wood Street Mission’s Christmas appeal.
Wood Street Mission is a children’s charity that helps thousands of children and families living on a low income in Manchester and Salford. They hold a yearly Christmas appeal to make sure children impacted by poverty have something to open on Christmas Day.
Last week, members of our Cleaning Services Team dropped off boxes and bags full of toys and gifts, kindly donated by colleagues from across the business.
Our annual toy appeal first started in December 2020 when our Environmental Services Team made it their mission to help lift spirits and spread some joy by collecting toys and gifts to donate to families experiencing hardship as part of the Little Hulton Toy Appeal.
Sue Sutton, CEO said “What started as the Environmental Service Team’s tradition during lockdown has now turned into a company-wide toy drive, meaning that even more children will be having a happy and memorable Christmas. I’m really proud of our charitable colleagues.
“Working in housing gives our colleagues a unique understanding of the tough choices many families face in the run-up to Christmas, so they’re determined to go the extra mile to make sure a child doesn’t wake up to nothing on Christmas morning.
“A special thank you to Eddie Keane, Yvonne Morrison, Ryan Docherty and David Worthington for being our Salix Homes Santas and making the trip down to Wood Street Mission to deliver all the toys and donations.”
