Salix Homes supports new campaign to bring about gender equality in Salford
A new report to progress gender equality in Salford has been published.
The Salford Women and Girls’ Commission launched their new report on March 8 to coincide with International Women’s Day.
Salix Homes Chief Executive Sue Sutton is one of the Commissioners of the group, which was established in January 2022 in the aftermath of the shocking murder of Sarah Everard.
The Commission is made up of 17 female leaders from across Salford’s public, private and voluntary, community and social enterprise sectors, and aims to generate a conversation, and develop local solutions, to address issues affecting women and girls’ safety and prosperity in Salford.
Sue Sutton said: “This report represents a positive step forward towards addressing gender equality and ensuring Salford is a fairer and safer city for women and girls to live and work, and I feel privileged to have played a part in it.
“The Commission is giving a platform for women to share their views on a range of issues from poverty and the challenges they face in the workplace, to how safe they feel in their homes and communities.
“These findings and recommendations will now be used to help shape a better future for all, and at Salix Homes we will continue to support the Commission by driving forward changes, both in our communities and within our own organisation, to turn these ideas into actions in the fight against inequality.”
The report sets out some of the challenges and barriers women and girls face in three key areas, as well as recommendations to address them, which are:
- Improving skills and access to good quality work
- Improving women’s safety
- Ensuring women’s voices are heard
The Commission will now be working with leaders, partners, businesses and organisation as across Salford to ensure the recommendations are taken forward to help shape a better future for women and girls.
