Salix Homes helps homeless build new future

We are working with Emmaus Salford, which supports homeless people by providing a home, companionship and meaningful work in one of its social enterprises.

The charity is based at Emmaus House, on Fitzwarren Street, Pendleton, where it will soon provide living accommodation for 26 homeless people – known as companions – when it opens fully this autumn.

The facilities also include a workshop and a newly opened shop selling furniture, bric-a-brac and household items.

As part of the new project, we are donating furniture and house-hold items to the charity that have been left behind by tenants who have moved on.

The donated furniture will then either be refurbished by the ‘companions’ and resold in the shop or used to furnish their own living space.

Ben Cruickshanks, empty properties manager at Salix Homes, said: Emmaus Salford is a fantastic charity which provides a lifeline for many homeless people in Salford and we are very proud to support it.

We get quite a lot of furniture and household items left behind when our tenants move on so we are delighted that these items can now be put to good use and go someway towards helping homeless people in Salford get back on their feet.

This is a fantastic project that will provide an opportunity for homeless people to learn new skills and work to overcome homelessness.
