Salix Homes and Recycle for Greater Manchester help residents recycle more
Over the past few months, Recycle for Greater Manchester’s Up and Forward Team have been working with Salix Homes to help promote good recycling practices.
As part of an EU Life+ funded campaign our employees have worked with residents in Seedley Terrace, Sycamore Court and Fitzwarren Court to promote the recycling services available in Salford.
This is part of a pilot project happening across Salford looking at how to improve recycling rates in apartments.
Our caretaking teams have been trained on recycling and waste issues and have visited the local recycling facility in Sharston, Manchester, to see how plastic bottles, glass bottles, jars, food and drinks can, foil and aerosol cans are sorted and separated.
Khurram Butt, our assistant apartment services manager said: Salix Homes recognise the benefits of recycling and we believe it is important to make recycling as easy as possible for all our tenants. Which is why we are pleased that Seedley Terrace, Sycamore Court and Fitzwarren Court have been chosen to pilot this project.
Residents were also asked their opinions on how recycling and waste facilities could be improved in their blocks, and signage has been provided in the bin areas to remind residents what can and cannot be recycled.
Clare Fallon, Campaign Officer with Recycle for Greater Manchester, said, Everyone seems to have learnt a lot throughout the process. It is hoped that by giving residents and employees the tools and knowledge to deal with their recycling and waste they will feel empowered to recycle more. It has been a positive experience and we are excited to see an increase in recycling from these blocks over the next few weeks.
