Join in the fun at first ever Islington Festival
A brand new festival for the people of Salford will take place later this weekend
The first ever Islington Festival promises to be fun for all the family, with an exciting line-up of activities planned.
The festival is on Saturday, July 11 and is spread across three venues – Islington Mill, St Philips Primary School and the community centre at Canon Hussey Court.
The proceedings will begin with the unveiling of a new peace garden at St Philips Primary School on Barrow Street at 2pm, followed by the school summer fair where visitors can look forward to an array of stalls, flower arranging and a drum workshop.
Meanwhile over at the community centre families can take part in arts and crafts activities, prize bingo and browse the bric-a-brac stalls.
Children can also let of some steam in the ‘noisy toys’ tent where they can try out the Bass Buzz Test and feel 1000 watts of sonic power through their fingertips or even have a jam on the giant noise machine. The fun will continue into the evening at Islington Mill where there will be a quiz and karaoke from 6pm – 11pm.
Revellers can also look forward to t-shirt printing, a film screening from DIY Theatre and Ordsall Arts Collective and food and refreshments from Creation Café, the Deli Lama and Mother May I vegan kitchen.
Organiser Verity Gardener, from Islington Mill, said: “The inaugural Islington Festival promises to be a fantastic day out for the whole family and we hope to see the whole community out in force celebrating together. “We’ve had some fantastic support from local people, organisations and businesses and everyone has really pulled out all the stops to provide an action-packed line up of activities for people of all ages.
There’s a wonderful sense of community spirit in Islington and we’d urge people to come along and join us for what we hope will be the first of many Islington Festivals.”
The event is supported by Ideas4Ordsall, Muse Developments, Social Adventures, Salix Homes and Cuckoo Design.
