Fundraising helps Ordsall boy battling rare cancer
Staff at a Salford housing provider are supporting the fundraising for a young local boy who is battling a rare form of cancer.
Eight-year-old Kaydan Hendren was recently diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a condition that affects only fewer than 60 children each year in the UK.
Kaydan, who lives in one of Salix Homes’ properties in Ordsall with his parents Vicki and Mark and older brother Dylan, is currently receiving three months’ worth of specialist Proton Beam treatment in Oklahoma, America.
This is in addition to the lifesaving treatment he also receives at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and The Christie.
Last month Salix Homes employees raised more than £130 from a dress down day and will continue to raise money to help towards the family’s everyday living on the other side of the Atlantic.
Katie Smith, friend of the family, said: “We’re delighted that the local community, the NHS, hospital staff and businesses like Salix Homes are helping Kaydan and his family financially through this already difficult time.
“I’ve spoken with Kaydan’s parents and they are massively overwhelmed with the support and wanted me to express their thanks to all those that have put their hands in their pockets because every little helps.
“Before Kaydan was eight years old, he was a healthy young boy and we’d love nothing more than to get him back this way.”
Friends and the community are trying to reach a £1,000 target for the family. If you’d like to donate, visit www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/kaydansjourney.
