Supporting Manchester Pride
Salix Homes is flying the rainbow flag at Manchester Pride this bank holiday weekend.
We are supporting the popular event which will see thousands of people descend on Manchester’s gay village for the city’s annual Pride Weekend.
Saturday’s Pride Parade, one of the weekend’s most exciting and hotly anticipated events, is a great opportunity for local groups and organisations to show their support for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community, and Salix Homes is getting in on the action this year.
We have sponsored two float entries in the Pride Parade – HouseProud North West and Salford Pink Picnic – and nine of our employees will be volunteering on the day to represent the organisation.
Lee Sugden, our chief executive, said: “We are delighted to be working with HouseProud and Salford Pink Picnic during this year’s Pride event. The work these organisations do to promote equality and diversity within the housing sector and beyond is vital in preventing unfair discrimination and harassment against LGBT individuals.”
HouseProud North West is part of a national LGBT network for individuals working in the housing sector, the aim of which is to encourage awareness and best practice surrounding LGBT issues within housing.
Salford Pink Picnic runs an annual LGBT festival in Peel Park every year, which is also supported by Salix Homes.
The parade itself is set to kick off at 12.30pm this Saturday, 26 August, starting from Liverpool Road, weaving its way around the Deansgate and Portland Street areas, and ending up in Fairfield Street. Headline acts this year include, former Spice Girl Melanie C, Clean Bandit and Faithless.
