Queen's Award for Salford charity
A Salford charity which has transformed the lives of hundreds of people in Salford has been honoured by The Queen.
Lower Kersal Young People and Community Group (LKYPCG) has been recognised with the prestigious Queens Award for Voluntary Service, which is the highest honour given to volunteer groups across the UK.
LKYPCG provides activities and opportunities for people across Salford from all walks of life, and Salix Homes has been proud to support it over the years.
We recently donated £900 to the group through our Springboard fund for its Soiland Shedinitiative, which provides a meeting place for local people, including war veterans, to learn new skills and socialise.
Thomas Lever MBE, who runs LKYPCG, said: “We were extremely excited to find out we had won this prestigious award out of hundreds of other volunteer groups across the country.
“We were invited down to Buckingham Palace to the Queen’s garden party with all the other winners. It was a beautiful day and such an honour to be part of something so special.
“This award is testament to the hard work of our volunteers. Our volunteers are like gold, and we wouldn’t be the group we are without them.”
To celebrate the achievement, Salix Homes neighbourhood manager Mick Walsh was invited to a special ceremony to present certificates to all the volunteers at the group in recognition of their work.
Mick said: “Salix Homes has been very proud to support Lower Kersal Young People’s and Community Group over the years.
“They have transformed lives for hundreds of people in Salford and provided opportunities that may ordinarily be out of reach.
“I was very honoured to present the certificates to the volunteers for all their amazing work and we look forward to continuing to support the group in the future.”
