The difference we make....
Salix Homes has published our latest Social Value Report showcasing the difference we make in our communities in Salford.
The report for 2020/21 highlights the positive impact Salix Homes has on our communities, colleagues and customers, as well as the wider community and economy.
Key highlights from this year’s report include:
- Let 34 homes to people who were previously homeless
- Invested £33,000 into local community groups and projects through our Springboard fund
- Supported 95 local people into work or training
- Provided 26 apprenticeship and trainee positions
- Given out £9,376 in Hardship Fund payments to people experiencing poverty
- Cleared 299 tonnes of fly-tipped waste
- Made 49,500 welfare check calls to vulnerable customers as part of our Covid-19 pandemic response.
Sue Sutton, chief executive at Salix Homes, said: “Salix Homes is not just about providing good quality, affordable homes, it’s about transforming lives and supporting our communities and we believe the delivery of social value is a crucial part of our business activity.
“Whilst not all benefits are immediately tangible, they can make a significant contribution to our impact on the communities in which we work.
“The past year has been one like no other, and during Covid-times, it’s been more important than ever that we adapted quickly to continue to provide services to our customers and deliver added social impact in our communities and beyond.”

This week, Greater Manchester Housing Providers (GMHP), which includes Salix Homes, has also published its collective Social Value Report.
During 2020/21, GMHP as a collective helped more than 6,500 residents towards work, supported almost 600 apprentices, spent £400m with local businesses, and facilitated 35,000 hours of volunteering in local communities.
GMHP members are committed to maximising social value and supporting social outcomes through their work across Greater Manchester, and the benefits are not just felt by those living in social housing but also the wider community, businesses, and the regional economy.
Gareth Swarbrick, chief executive at Rochdale Boroughwide Housing and Chair of GMHP’s Social Value Group, said: “Social housing providers are about much more than providing homes – delivering sustainable social, economic and environmental benefits in our communities is at the heart of what we do.
“Our activity goes well beyond traditional routes, such as delivering social value through our supply chains. We look to deliver a range of positive outcomes through our day-to-day activity and the partnerships we foster, from supporting the voluntary and community sector and local non-profit organisations, to raising living standards of residents and promoting participation and citizen engagement.
“Our annual social value report highlights the collective contribution of GMHP members to support residents, communities and local businesses, and is something we can all be really proud of, particularly given the significant challenges faced during the pandemic. Our teams adapted quickly and found new ways of working with our communities to ensure that we were able continue delivering services and support to create significant social impact across our neighbourhoods.”
